Elizabeth DiAlto: Unlocking Inner Wisdom, Healing traumas, and Balancing Love & Accountability Pin

Elizabeth DiAlto created the School of Sacred Embodiment which is this unique offering that focuses on wisdom that’s truly embodied and that integrates the mind, body, and the spirit. Elizabeth’s personal journey and the growth she experienced on this path is what led to the creation of this holistic approach to healing and spirituality.

Coming from a religious upbringing, Elizabeth sought to develop her own sense of connection with the divine and she began exploring the idea of accessing healing through the body and discovered the concept of embodiment, which involves getting out of the head and into the body.

Elizabeth adopted a more somatic approach as she learned about trauma, the nervous system, and somatics. She wanted all of these different pieces to be a part of a comprehensive offering and allow for a more holistic approach. Through the School of Sacred Embodiment, Elizabeth helps others connect with their bodies and listen to their inner wisdom.

One such creation is the Wild Soul Movement practice, which combines breath work, mantra, meditation, and slow, sensual movement. This practice is not about burning calories or reshaping the body but rather about connecting to the body and listening to its messages.

…it’s kind of a mystery school, but very practical and grounded, you know, for people who care about healing, people who care about spirituality, people who care about collective liberation.

The school serves a diverse spectrum of individuals, from those who are highly spiritual to those who are more grounded and practical.

The wisdom offered by the School of Sacred Embodiment goes beyond mere knowledge. Knowledge can be acquired from books or podcasts, but wisdom is the embodiment of that knowledge. It involves deep practice, experience, skill, and understanding. Wisdom is also our own infinite intelligence and the experiences of our souls and ancestors.

Wisdom and the subconscious

According to Elizabeth, our subconscious holds knowledge and perception that goes beyond what we can consciously articulate. This wisdom is accumulated from past lives and experiences, and it exists within us, albeit in an intangible and esoteric form.

It’s also important to understand that the subconscious is a powerful force that holds both positive and negative aspects. While it is the source of genius ideas and insights, it is also where our deepest traumas reside. When we seek answers and want to tap into our inner wisdom, we are likely to encounter past experiences and traumas that may hinder our progress.

To address this challenge, Elizabeth shares a perspective that can help us be less selective  about our experiences. This perspective allows us to surrender to the present moment and accept what is happening. Instead of wasting energy and power fighting reality, we can choose to go through difficult experiences with grace and trust. We discuss the power of intuition as well, and why it’s important to trust our emotions and the guidance of our body.

The path becomes easier when we prioritise growth above all, and life requires friction and challenges in order for growth to occur. Unpleasant experiences, traumas, and uncomfortable emotions are opportunities for growth and self-discovery. By facing these challenges head-on and working through them, we gain a deeper understanding and wisdom that we wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Instead of constantly searching for things to heal and analyse, we should focus on what is right in front of us. If something is bothering us and continuously coming up, it is a sign that it needs our attention. Working with what is obvious and persistent allows us to address the issues that are most relevant to our growth and development.

Take responsibility for your choices

One of the main themes discussed in the episode is the importance of taking responsibility for our choices. The podcast acknowledges that there are external and systemic factors that can impact our lives and make certain choices more challenging for some individuals. However, Elizabeth also emphasises that we still have agency and control over our own actions and behaviours. We must take ownership of our choices and recognise the role we play in shaping our own lives.

Elizabeth is quick to acknowledge that not all choices are available to everyone, but she believes that we still have more choices than we often realize. By acknowledging our agency and the choices that are within our control, we can make more intentional decisions and take steps towards personal growth and fulfilment.

I loved how Elizabeth, as part of this line of thought, connected taking responsibility with surrender and trust in the timing of things. If we are learning hard lessons, there is a reason for it that may not be obvious to us in the moment but it will become apparent as it creates growth and opportunities at a later point in our life. Let go of the need for control and trusting in the process of life, it will help us navigate challenges with more grace.

Embrace curiosity and have faith

Often, as we start embodying our truth in our action and choices, we encounter resistance. It may come from others, it came from within ourselves. When that happens, Elizabeth asks that we trust ourself and the wisdom that is leading us down that path but also stay curious. While we don’t need validation from others, sometimes when someone else disagrees with us, they may be sharing something that can add layers to our growth.

Even as you trust yourself, be open to the idea that you may be wrong or there may be more to learn. Instead of trying to convince others or seeking certainty, focus on growth. Curiosity is a powerful tool to combat fear. There is value in questioning and examining our beliefs and assumptions. It is through curiosity that we can expand our understanding and challenge our preconceived notions. By remaining open-minded and curious, we can continue to learn and grow throughout our lives.

Don’t let your convictions make you less human

Often the most convicted people are also the most myopic. They're the most narrow minded.

Conviction can be a powerful force. It gives us the courage to stand up for what we believe in, to advocate for our opinions and views. However, when this conviction is taken to an extreme, it can lead to dehumanization of others.

The danger lies in the fact that when we pursue conviction, we often invalidate someone else’s expression and existence. By asserting our own beliefs and opinions without considering the perspectives of others, we create blockages and negative impacts on ourselves and others. This corruption of energy can go unnoticed, but it has a profound effect on our well-being.

Elizabeth believes that conviction must go hand-in-hand with humility. Humility allows us to pivot, change our minds, and form new opinions. In this way, humility enables growth and learning.

Self love, the healthy kind 😉

I loved Elizabeth’s self love framework.

Self love actually is super potent and powerful. I have a self love framework. And my framework is self awareness, self knowledge, self acceptance, self trust and self respect.

Let go of all the ‘ideas’ of self-love that the world (or social media) has fed you, and listen to what Elizabeth shares. If you want to practice a self-love that cares but also nurtures, that protects but also creates accountability and growth, Elizabeth’s framework can be very helpful.

Another important aspect of self-love that the podcast explores is setting boundaries and handling conflicts in our lives.

Spend time with this conversation. It is one to reflect on and then decide what pieces you want to keep, which ones you want to adapt, and what needs further exploration. Enjoy!
