How are you going to win the war against the world if you can’t win the war against your own mind?
- Will Smith Tweet
If you listen to the interviews of people who have accomplished things through sheer grit, you’ll find one thing in common among them all – mastery over their mind!
You will accomplish nothing if you are ruled by your impulses, emotions, or bodily needs. They say that convincing the body to keep going is a piece of cake as long as the mind is on your side.
I am someone who believes in this 100%. If I fail at having a productive day, it’s only because I gave in to my impulse to rest more or procrastinate. It cannot be blamed on anything else, at all!
I have been consciously working on being a better, happier human being, and I really have come a long way. Most days, I am nothing short of a freaking ray of sunshine, but despite all the laughter and the happiness running through my body, on certain days, my mind is full of darkness.

The past few days, I have been having nightmares, and not just random, disconnected nightmares. They have been going on like a movie in my head. It’s the same thing, but it seems to be progressing, and it’s scaring the sh*t out of me.
I am not going to describe it. Just because I am suffering from sleepless nights, doesn’t mean you should too. A couple days back, I had reached a point of certainty that the dreams are an omen of something bad coming my way. So, I did what any grown up does when they feel things slipping out of control – I called mom! She told me to go for a walk and get some fresh air (Due to my migraines, I had been locked up in my house for three continuous days). So I did.
Then, she told me to clean the entire house. I did. After that, she told me to chant the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra which is a small prayer or a chant addressed to the Hindu Lord Shiva. It is believed that if you chant the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra, it creates a circle of protection around you so that nothing can hurt you. It also generates positive energy.
I did all that, and that night, I didn’t have the nightmare. I didn’t sleep peacefully. I didn’t have the nightmare but a part of my brain was alert out of fear that I would.
Even so, peacefully or not, at least I slept. This led me to concluding that regardless of how much control I might establish on my mind, bad energy could be a reason behind disrupted productivity, mood, and possibly, even growth.
I am a believer in all things unless conclusively proven to not exist. So, I have always believed in bad and good energy, but I still considered my mind to be the superior force; whether it is or not is a debate for another day. For now, maybe good energy and mastery over my thoughts can work in tandem.
This idea led me to research tips for cleansing personal and environmental energy to clear mental blocks. I am hoping that if you are going through something similar, you can find a solution with this post.
As a bibliophile and active avoid-er of human contact, it is utter bliss to stay indoors with books day after day but turns out, it’s a bad, bad idea. Staying cooped up inside your house means you’re taking in stale energy. Yes, I said stale, and no, I am not making it up.
You need to go out in fresh air for at least 30 minutes every day. It allows you to clear the cobwebs. Fresh air will lighten the load of stress and anxiety. Therefore, helping you to cleanse your aura.
It is also necessary to let the fresh air and sunlight into your home by opening the windows. It will push out all the negative energy and allow the positivity in.
If possible, try and get the sunlight to touch every corner of your house. It is believed that laundry should always be dried in the sun so that the warmth stays with us when we put the clothes on, helping us sustain positivity.
If you don’t want to walk, swim! Swimming at the beach or a natural water body could be wonderful for your mind. You can also bring a little bit of nature into your home by putting plants inside your house.
How do you feel after having an entire pizza? Lethargic, sleepy, good for nothing!? Me too!
There are spiritual foods that are believed to help awaken our intuition, chakras, and spiritual energy. Herbal teas, fruits, and vegetables (things that grow) – are considered to be ‘spiritual’ food. So, when you’re down in the doldrums, change your diet.
A clean body is a home to positive energy – invigorating and rejuvenating. I cannot go without a shower ever! Even when I’m sick, I take a shower even if it’s a short one. There is a reason why shower meditation is so highly recommended.
When you take a shower standing up, you can imagine that as the water flows down your body, it’s taking all the anxiety and stress with it.
Standing in the shower helps activate positive energy. So, while you’re in there, just give it 5 minutes. Close your eyes, loosen all the muscles, smile, and feel the water cleansing you of all the toxins in your body and mind. It is washing away all the negativity.

If you’re a bath person, then use sea-salt and essential oils to your bath. Essential oils with their fragrance and soothing feel can help calm your nerves. The right blend can create a wonderful environment for you to relax in.
A relaxed mind will be more receptive to positive, uplifting thoughts. Maybe listen to happy and/or soothing music in there, or read a good self-help book.
This is a no-brainer! A cluttered space is annoying to everyone. Sometimes we just don’t have the time to pause and take care of the said clutter, but if you don’t declutter, the negative energy isn’t going anywhere. Old things trap a lot of negative energy.
From experience, I can promise you that if you’re suffering, a thorough cleaning of your home and office space will really help. With the dust and clutter gone, let the sunlight in, and you’ll be able to FEEL the change in your space.
While, this post may appeal to the believers, for those who have no experience with energy healing or spirituality, all this might seem to be a lot of hokum! So now, use your logic.
Writing is one of the best kind of catharsis. It comes recommended by all the health professionals, spiritual gurus, councillors, and even rookie volunteers at anger management camp. (I should know, I have been to several!)
So, pour your heart out on paper. The reason this is better than talking to a person is that you can see all the crap sitting right there in front of you.
You let all the woes out on a piece of paper and then, all your grief, pain, and anxiety is there for you to see – in black and white. Not so intimidating now, is it!?
Usually, just writing makes me feel better but if I am angry, I like to burn stuff. Just Kidding! I put down my anger on paper and then, I set fire to it (in a totally non-destructive, safe way). It’s a symbolic re-establishing of my control over my life.
You have two options if just writing isn’t enough –
Burn the paper – it’s like how some people like to burn the pictures of their exes. It’s cathartic.
Place the paper in a safe space and ask the angels/god/universe to take care of everything for you. Once you have put it down on paper, you’ve released the negativity.
Now, pray to whatever higher power you believe in, and ask them to protect you and take care of all your problems. If you’ve been good, it will be done!
Did you know that when you visualise, you activate the same parts of your brain as you do when you actually perform the action?

Students, athletes, and even accident victims with broken limbs have been known to perform better with their goals if they visualise a positive result. Visualisation for a person trying to regain use of a limb can actually improve the health of the tissue involved in the recovery process. Amazing, isn’t it? Now, what do you think that means so far as personal energy is concerned.
We started this post by talking about establishing better control over our own minds. It seems that visualisation is a pretty good way to do it.
It can turn that frown upside down like nobody’s business. As a believer in the law of attraction, I actively employ the powers of visualisation to manifest desired results into existence, and I cannot recommend it enough.
Whenever you feel like things aren’t going your way and you may have surrounded yourself with a lot of negativity, visualise things turning into your favour, and feel as you would if the vision turned into reality. I guarantee that you’ll see some solid results if you visualise regularly.
Do we even need to talk about this?
If you don’t already do yoga, you can’t be very serious about growing as a spiritual being. I’ll give you one tip- stick it out for 10 days, you won’t be able to stop after that. Yoga is quick to show results. So, all you need to do is start.
Initially, Meditation, despite repeated attempts, didn’t really work for me. Then, someone recommended shower meditation and it worked instantly. I love being in the water, maybe that’s why.
Meditation is one thing that is recommended not just to clear energy blocks but to sustain positive change as well. It is said to have physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional benefits.
It can also provide protection from the disruptive energy of the people around you. In fact, get an EEG done to really see the effects of meditation because it can alter brain waves.
Meditation in an open park is recommended by all meditation maestros. It combines the benefits of being out in fresh, clean air with the awesomeness of meditation. If nothing else, when you step outside, do deep breaths for several minutes. It’ll relax all the clenched muscles in your body and allow for clearer thinking.
This post has been triggered by my nightmares. I can’t remember the last time I had a deep, uninterrupted sleep. So, I went looking for solutions. Here is the conclusion, and this comes recommended by pretty much every source I found –
Disconnect an hour before bed. Meaning, you need to get away from your cell phone and laptop.
Working with gadgets requires all your mental faculties to stay engaged. This keeps you from relaxing as you should and that further prevents proper sleep.
Play soothing instrumental music in the background.
Do deep breathing exercises.
Do Visualisation exercises and just try to make a smooth transition into a somnolent state and eventually just slip into deep sleep.

Basically, anything that engages your senses or riles you up should be avoided an hour before bed.
Usually, I watch Conan O’Brian’s interviews before bed, and it had worked in the past, but due to the nightmares, I had to change things. I have been listening to soothing music and Maha Mrityunjaya mantra before bed. All of this is worth trying if you find the quality of your sleep lacking.
This is somewhat of a rule for all successful people, and it makes sense. If the morning is wasted, the rest of the day will also suffer because of the stress and anxiety to get things done.
Your productivity will take a hit and therefore, the quality of your work will suffer. Chances are you won’t get through your task list either.
So, do yourself a favour and don’t hit the snooze button. Get out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off. Don’t allow the lethargy to set in. After you get up, for the first one hour, don’t go on the social media.
It is advised that you don’t even pick up your phone for the first hour of the morning. Start with some deep breathing exercises. Express Gratitude – say thank you to god/angels/universe for everything. Do some meditation or yoga – really, whatever you prefer to focus your energies. Then, engage with content that nourishes your brain.

I like to start my day with a cup of coffee and a book to the accompaniment of the utter silence of the house – my favourite method, and one I recommend you try. Basically, start your day in a way that is designed to get your mind in the right state.

Just like watching a horror movie leaves us disturbed for several days, interacting with a negative or angry person can ruin our entire day. It disrupts our own energy field.
If you’re a sensitive person or an empath, you instantly absorb other people’s energy which if you’re around negative or aggressive people, is really bad for you.
Try to limit access to people who can potentially ruin your day, mood, or aura.
Also try to consume positive content (books, movies, music). Too much crime news can leave you feeling drained. On the other hand, watching uplifting comedies can imbue you with positivity and improve your mood.
Finally, if nothing works, ask God/angels/universe to take care of it. Thankfully, there is a higher power at play. So, just appeal to that power and allow your anxieties to shift from your fragile shoulders onto the shoulders of someone strong enough to bear the weight of it without faltering. Then, try to let it go.
I am still working on my nightmares. Once I take care of it for good, I will update this article with whatever else I do to achieve my goal. If you have any ideas that might help me improve my energy field and centers, please do share. I can really use the help!
